My Summer Makeup Routine

14:56

So over the past few weeks England has been experiencing a freak heat-wave and most of us Brits are losing our minds over it. The smell of barbecues is constantly in the air, everyone has a mini water park in their back garden and I am pretty sure that everyones blood stream is now made up of 99% gin and tonic... Although the weather has been great, the sticky humid heat is doing nothing for my complexion and I've spent the last few weeks wearing little to no makeup at all. On the off chance that I do wear makeup, at the end of the day when I look in the mirror I seem to resemble an oil painting. Unfortunately, I do sometimes have to wear makeup so that I look alive when I leave the house, so I have switched up my usual makeup routine to something much more minimalistic to avoid the sweaty upper lip! So today I am going to share with you the products that I have been loving at the minute, that give me a healthy glow but also don't clog my pores up when it's hot. All products listed are linked with the cheapest price I could find!

Base

Since it is so hot I have been straying away from using foundation and just concentrating on a glowy primer and powder to keep my skin from getting oily throughout the day. I find that if I wear foundation when it is hot outside, my skin ends up looking way more shiny and I end up getting more breakouts.
I always start my base off with a SPF, because it helps protect the skin from UV, whilst also slowing down ageing and pigmentation. I use the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Airsoft SPF 30, as I have sensitive skin and using generic body suncream breaks me out. This SPF is made just for the face and helps to protect my skin without clogging up my pores.
On top of my SPF, I then use my Mac Strobe Cream to give my skin some hydration whilst adding a glowy, radiant base. This acts as a second moisturiser and really does leave my skin feeling so soft.
On top of this, I add my new favourite staple product, the L'Oreal Bonjour Sunshine Tanned Skin Embellisher. This is a tinted moisturiser that gives your skin a healthy looking tan and gives a small amount of coverage to cover any blemishes or pigmentation. If you are someone that is looking for something high coverage, you could follow up with a foundation after this product!
After these two cream products, I like to place my Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in shade medium golden on the areas where I tend to sweat the most, this mainly includes my T-zone, but also under my eyes. This is a tinted powder and I actually buy this in a darker shade to give me more of a tanned look and I prefer this to a translucent powder.
To give the illusion that I actually have cheekbones (not all of us are blessed with Angelia Jolie's great bone structure), I use my Hoola Quickie Contour Stick on my cheekbones, nose, forehead and jaw line, to give a more structured shape and to make it look as if I have a natural sun-kissed glow. I prefer using this in the summer time to my beloved Hoola Powder, because it sits nicely on top of the cream base products and isn't as pigmented as the powder. It's super easy to blend in and takes two minutes to apply.
Although my sweat usually gives me some sort of a glow, I do like to finish my base off with my L'Oreal Glow Mon Amour Liquid Highlighter. I place this on the tops of my cheekbones, nose and cupids bow and it just gives such a natural glow that really catches the sunlight. It's very similar to the Iconic Drops but half the price!

Eyes

I generally don't wear any eyeshadow during the day as I can never be bothered to apply it, but if I am going out somewhere a bit more fancy I tend to just sweep my Hoola powder over my eyelids. However recently I have just been curling my lashes and putting Soap & Glory Thick and Fast Mascara to give me long looking, full lashes. It also creates a much more natural look, and with the minimal face base, eyeshadow would look strange in my opinion!
For my eyebrows, I just use the Soap & Glory Brow Archery Gel, to give my brows a more defined, bushier look. If I am going out on the evenings I will shape my brows using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade, but during the day I prefer a more natural look.

Lips

When it's hotter my lips get very dry, so I like to keep my lip products to a minimum and avoid wearing lipstick that could dry them out. I tend to just use a lip butter or moisturiser, my favourite at the minute is Body Shops Mango Lip Butter, that smells good enough to eat! (I don't recommend that though) This gives my lips a little tint of a peachy pink colour, whilst keeping them moisturised throughout the day.
