My Favourite Products For Spot Prone Skin

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you will know about my struggles with adult hormonal acne - you can read my blog post on my struggle with acne here. Acne and spots can be such a personal struggle and it can really knock your self confidence. Although there are plenty of treatments that you can receive prescriptions for, you might want to start by tackling your skin care first. If you find a few products that work for you, it may mean you don't have to start on any medication, which means no nasty side effects!
Over the years I have collected a handful of products that I use to treat my acne. I mainly get acne on my jawline and chin and I've found that these products help to get rid of scarring, as well as the spots themselves. So let's dive in!

I'll start off with one of the more medicinal products, as this is the most effective but can also wreck havoc if you have sensitive skin like me. Acnecide is a over the counter cream that you apply twice a day to the affected area. Acnecide contains Benzoyl Peroxide, which is used to treat mild to moderate acne. Benzoyl Peroxide penetrates into your skin and gets rid of any acne bacteria thats lurking underneath. If used consistently over a period of time, you are guaranteed to see results. Acnecide won't cure your acne completely, but it is a great product to use if you only suffer from a few hormonal breakouts. As Acnecide contains chemicals such as Benzoyl Peroxide, it can cause a few nasty side effects. If you use too much it can cause peeling and burning of the skin, so I would recommend using just a small amount!

Body Shop Tea Tree Oil

This product is a saviour! I've been using this on and off for over two years now and it's one of the best acne products I've ever used. This is an oil that you put on targeted areas of concern as often as you like. So as soon as you see a pesky spot making an appearance, pop this on and it reduced blemishes. Tea Tree is known to have powerful healing properties that help get rid of bacteria caused by spots and acne, so if you dab this on a few times a day, you will be sure to see results.

Lush Grease Lightning Gel

I have a whole blog post dedicated to Lush products here, but I want to just mention this wonderful product again. This gel contains antiseptic rosemary, thyme and tea tree, that work at getting rid of angry below the skin spots. As this is an all-natural product, you can put it on whenever you want to, without worrying about any side effects from over-use. 100% Recommend this product if you suffer from mild to moderate acne or hormonal breakouts.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

I was sceptical when I first heard about this product, as it was claiming to be a miracle at getting rid of nasty spots. So I splashed the cash and decided to buy it and I am honestly so glad that I did. This product contains Salicylic Acid, which is known for getting rid of whiteheads and cystic acne. You pop some of the pink solution onto a cotton bud and dab it on the spot, leaving it over night to work it's magic. The first time I tried it I didn't expect much, but rightly enough I woke up the next morning and my angry whitehead spot had completely disappeared, leaving no scar behind! I also like to put this on if I see a spot forming underneath the skin and 9 times out of 10, I wake up and it's completely disappeared. It's a little bit more on pricier side but it really does work miracles!

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes

I know simple receives a lot of controversial reviews and I personally find that the majority of their skin care range makes me break out. BUT I wouldn't use any other cleaning wipes to take off my makeup. I used to use the Garnier Micellar Water, which I no longer use as it gave me horrible acne. I started using these wipes to remove my makeup every night and not only are they excellent at getting rid of my makeup, but they also leave my skin feeling so smooth. An added bonus is that they are the only makeup wipes that don't give me spots. So if you suffer from sensitive, spot prone skin, I'd definitely recommend giving these a go!

So these are a few of the products that I use on my acne to help keep it at bay! I don't use all these products at once, I tend to alternate as my skin is so sensitive and can only deal with a minimal skin care routine. I also have a large selection of face masks that I use for my acne, so if you'd like to see a blog post about those, let me know!
I hope you've enjoyed this post!
